MY STORY

From writing stories about my Elf on the Shelf to building fictional narratives from song lyrics, writing how a semester abroad lead to a breakup and exploring grief and loss through prose…

All in all, although the content of my creative pieces has drastically changed throughout the years one thing remains the same: the pride felt in producing and completing a piece of writing. This pride is not a result of being overly confident in my work. Instead, this pride comes from knowing that regardless of my work’s reception, I am doing something that truly feeds my soul.

For me, writing is not and has never been a task, a grade, or a nuisance. Writing has in fact been a gift that permits me to relay my thoughts onto the page, propose differing points of view, embark on trains of thought that would otherwise be left unchartered, and dwell within worlds I am responsible for creating.

I graduated Providence College in the Spring of 2024. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing and graduated as the valedictorian of my major.

PHILOSOPHY

Childhood is commonly defined by scrapes on the tips of knees and elbows earned from bike rides and the spikes in your heart rate when the ice cream truck sirens blare. Though both of these definitions were prevalent in my youth, they also were accompanied by countless hours behind my Dell laptop; drafting, generating, writing, and editing short stories of any content my innocent curiosity wanted to delve into. I wrote expository pieces about the existence of the Tooth Fairy (using Wikipedia as my viable source), narratives about the personal life of my Elf on the Shelf Tommy and his wife Wanda, and even tried my hand at mystery writing that followed the likes of my most favorite book series at the time, Geronimo Stilton.

MY EDUCATION

“A writer is a writer not because she writes well and easily, because she has amazing talent, because everything she does is golden. In my view a writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.” – Junot Diaz

HOW I WRITE

It is not uncommon for me to be asked, “How do you write without hesitation?” To answer this question, I use a process that was introduced to me in high school, yet still is the driving force behind my writing today. First, I begin with a mind absent of critical thought, judging, cringing, or analyzing - and allow myself to simply just create. Then, when the stream of observation wanes and my ideas abate, I edit. Meticulously, I examine what I have written and allow my critical mind to take precedence over my work.
